GUARDIAN ANGELS

As I promised, this month we will focus on our Guardian Angels. If you will note from the picture I chose the guardian angels are over the child and the MOM. We tend to think of our guardian angels being only for children; however, in fact God in his infinite mercy gave each and every one of us ONE Guardian Angel for ourselves. St. Thomas tells us that the moment a child is born God calls one of His glorious Spirits and gives the newborn babe into his SPECIAL CARE. Prior to birth the baby is taken care of by the Guardian Angel of the mother. Our Angel will be with us our entire life and with all the Angels and Saints they will usher us to heaven. Of course, they have a very great interest in making sure we get to heaven; so they, more than any other Saint or Angel have a very personal interest in us.

Padre Pio made millions of people realize the importance of our Guardian Angels as well as Father Paul O’Sullivan, O.P. in his book “all about the Angels” put out by Tan Publishing Company. In my journey with the Angels I remember Scott Hahn in one of his talks commenting that the Angels have nothing to do if we do not give them jobs. (Trust me, I took him literally and I give out a lot of jobs every day.)  Realizing that we each have our very own Angel is very comforting as you get use to the fact that he is always with you.

After my miraculous surgery on the Feast of the Archangels and my close relationship with St. Raphael I started praying 7 “Glory Be’s” to my Guardian Angel every day as written in the little “Pieta” book. It was before the store and the ministry so I spent a lot of time in church and prayer as well as reading. In the book “All About the Angels” he tells us a lot of facts about our Guardian Angel namely their role as our dearest, most intimate, most loving friend. He says every Christian should strive to have a full comprehension of this doctrine and should realize vividly the presence of this ANGEL by our side. Even though one Angel would be powerful enough to take perfect care of A THOUSAND SOULS, God in his infinite mercy has given each one of us a Special Angel who is all our own, whose duty henceforth will be to watch over us DAY AND NIGHT (not just night as we pray before going to sleep). He is with us in our homes, in the street, working or resting, everywhere, every moment of our lives, in joys and in troubles. He NEVER abandons us for a single instant; he sees our every movement; he is ever at our sides. It is so sad that so many people are unaware of this dear Angel, maybe we can make a difference.

When our Angel takes charge of a soul, he devotes all his glorious intelligence and knowledge, all his power and vigilance to protect, defend and help in every possible way the person whom God has given into his charge. He honestly and truly desires us to do all that God wishes of us in this life. He wants us to be holy and happy and he prays for us unceasingly to God. He constantly whispers in our ears counsels full of love and wisdom; however, he cannot interfere with our free will. He can act on our imagination, help us fight evil inclinations and keep us on the straight path to eternity where we will be with him forever.

As you realize his is your best friend, he will help you with all major decisions in your life, protect and guide you and NEVER DESERT YOU.

Now back to the fact that I had started praying the “Glory Be” 7 times in honor of my Guardian Angel.  In my readings I had read that they each have a name. Sometimes they will tell you their name; however, it is perfectly alright to name them yourself if you choose. One day as I was praying I got to the 5th “Glory Be” and I just “thought” it would be nice to know his name. For the first time in my life I had a “THOUGHT” (no voice, no locution, just a thought). It said “MY NAME IS SAM”!  I am so glad I was at home because I said “SAM?????” Same thought “Yes, my name is SAMUEL but you can call me Sam for short”!!!!! WOW! What a joy. My first thought was, “it was you that was on the back of the motorcycle when I couldn’t find the brake and ran through a red light” it was YOU that protected me from all the near misses in my life. It was you that helped me find the Catholic Church. It was you that has guided me and kept me safe from all the things in my life that could have destroyed me and on and on and on.

As the years have gone on I have gone from being so insecure that I would not go to a store by myself to just coming back from a pilgrimage taking 26 people all over Europe. I am not ever alone. Sam has a lot of jobs that he does consistently like keeping my medals untangled, making sure I am on time, helping me “fix” things around the house, coaching me, guiding me, traveling with me. When we are in some heavy ministry and the evil side wants to get me in an accident, Sam has already used my foot on the brake and halted me with such force that the back seat came forward before I knew there was a problem. Avoided lots of direct hits from side streets (you can know it was your angel if the adrenalin does not kick in, it is very peaceful). It was him that was in charge of the message from Betania (Aug. newsletter) was with St. Raphael at my miraculous healing (Sept. newsletter) and is here with me now as I share this with you.

Over the years here in the ministry it is not unusual for people to say, “oh, she is not alone, Sam is with her”.  It would take volumes to tell all that Sam and I do together but if you get to know your Guardian Angel through our experiences it will be a great joy to see all of you in heaven accompanied by your Angel and say HI to everyone.

I encourage you to have a personal relationship with your PERSONAL ANGEL. Your life will not be the same, it will be more peaceful and fulfilling to know you are never alone.
